About Sellar

Delivering great buildings and great places in the area of Southwark for over 20 years’, Sellar is an award-winning privately-owned property company, located on Bermondsey Street. Sellar has brought thousands of new jobs into the Borough plus apprenticeships for local people, and is actively contributing to the area’s socio economic regeneration.

Sellar is proud of its track record, which includes work on the iconic Shard Quarter in London, delivered in partnership with Renzo Piano. The Shard Quarter is home to The Shard, News UK’s headquarters, and will soon house a residential development, Shard Place.

The company has a proven track record for bringing new employment and other opportunities to the local area. Working with GoodPeople, a London-based social enterprise, Sellar devised a social impact recruitment programme over 3 years for the London Bridge Quarter, which aimed at connecting unemployed local residents with local employers. This helped 447 unemployed Southwark residents get placed into sustainable jobs, 72% of these were between 18-24 and previously ‘NEET’ and 76% were from the BAME community. In addition, 68 jobs were created locally throughout the construction programme.

About RPBW

The Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) provide full architectural design services and consultancy services during the construction phase. Their design skills extend beyond architectural services, encompassing interior design services, town planning and urban design services, landscape design services and exhibition design services. As a result, RPBW has successfully undertaken and completed over 140 projects around the world.

In Southwark, RPBW delivered The Shard, which was completed in 2012. In 2013, RPBW was appointed by Sellar to design a residential tower with generous public realm amenities at street level, to complement the now occupied, Shard and Place buildings. The scheme is both respectful of its historic context on St Thomas Street through the choice of facing materials, while clearly acknowledging the cluster established by The Shard.
